Bonn

Last weekend, I spent the weekend in Bonn to visit the Japanese Society for Promotion of Science. It was my second time in Bonn and this time, I took the chance to walk around and have a breakfast at the market. The historic center is really picturesque and during May there are maypoles everywhere. It is an old tradition where men put a maypole in front of the house of their girlfriend as prove of favor. I have seen that tradition there for the first time, since it is a local fashion. Another really weird thing was the electronic offertory box in a church. For my personal view it may be convenient, but kind of distasteful …sounds like: Ohhh, you don’t have cash? No worries, we accept credit cards as well. ….So no excuses! Don’t forget to donate before you leave and visit us again….muahahahaha! Currently, they are collecting for a memorial tablet for the last pope. Who cares?! I would understand, if they would collect for poor people or sick children…

Savage garden

Last weekend was surprisingly hot and Easter holiday as well. Thus, I spent the time with my family and in my home town. We have a huge garden with heaps of apple trees which were in flower at the moment: perfect weather and scenery to make some photos with my camera. By spending more and more time taking picture of the blossoms, I recognized all the different bugs, bees and ants hiding or working in the flowers. Here are some of my favorite macro shots!

Suddenly, I am one year older again. Every year, I try to find a special place for a family brunch. This year, I decided for a very cozy café nearby where you can eat various bagels, soups and cakes. Everything is absolutely delicious, the staff is great and the atmosphere is just relaxing. We had the entire living room for us and our buffet was presented around the chimney on several small coffee tables.  Thus, we were sitting in old fashioned armchairs, ate way too much and let the time go by. Yesterday, I used the really nice summer weather to show two friends from Finland the castle Sanssouci in Potsdam. I really like it in every season because the scenery looks different each time. It is so relaxing to walk around the park and discover all the unique views, palaces and pavilions in baroque style, Mediterranean and Asian influence as well…kind of fusion architecture! The entire property was actually made for one reason: pleasure!  As its name says: Sans souci – don’t worry…be happy! The absolute right attitude for me.
